Transboundary water cooperation is the source of cooperation and conflict in South Asia. Cooperation on hydroelectricity projects, trans boundary inland waterways, and shared water use in agriculture brings South Asian countries together. However, disagreements over riparian rights, power asymmetry between states, water diversion and inundation, geopolitics over rivers, internationalization of river disputes, differences in interpretation of water treaties and hegemonic tendencies of powerful countries made water bodies a medium of politics and a source of discontent. The session will discuss these nuanced but interrelated aspects of water cooperation and diplomacy. Opening remark by South Asian Expert- Dr. Medha Bisht, Associate Professor, South Asian University. Panel Moderator: Afia Salam, Journalist (Pakistan) Speakers: Dr. Hassan Abbas, Expert in Hydrology (Pakistan) Dr. Medha Bisht, Associate Professor, South Asian University Dr. Sonia Binte Murshed, Associate Professor, Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (Bangladesh)
