Here's a nostalgic look at New York Central steam locomotives in action as filmed by a number of railfan photographers between the mid-1930s and the mid-1950s. The program opens with a brief ride from New York City to Harmon, where electric locomotives were exchanged for steam. Views of the Harmon engine terminal and the engine change itself are presented. The tour continues with action scenes of high-speed passenger trains on the main line south of Albany, including sequences featuring locomotives scooping water on the fly! A quick diversion to Kingston on the West Shore Line offers charming vignettes of antique 4-6-0s on the branch to Oneonta. Other highlights include trains on Washington Street in Syracuse and the opening of the new elevated Syracuse railroad station, Buffalo terminal in the snow, trains at Kalamazoo and Battle Creek, and extended action sequences at Chicago, Kankakee, and St. Louis. Locomotives featured range from chunky 0-8-0 switchers to the famous Hudsons, Mohawks, and Niagaras. Description taken from cassette box. This video is not intended for monetary gain.
