How ironic is it that the entrancing beauty of the spalted maple tops on our Wildwood Ten Artisan Telecasters is the result of an infectious fungi? The only way to get the gorgeous black lines in the wood is to harvest maple trees during a very narrow window of time (the fungus has to have time to work, but not too much time, or the wood will become too soft to turn into a guitar), then put it through an extensive, painstaking drying process that kills the fungi and stabilizes the wood. As any luthier will tell you, drier wood equals more sustain and a more harmonically interesting top end, so this particular disease is largely responsible for how pleasing these guitars are to the ears and eyes! That’s just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to good looks and tone, though! These terrific Telecasters also boast a 3A birdseye maple neck with a medium roast, which looks great and promotes greater stability. Two of our hand-wound Twisted Tele pickups reproduce the tone of these exotic woods with superb fidelity while adding a taste of hot-rodded Fender tone. Gold hardware and an RSD bridge complete the elegant aesthetic to give it an inimitable look that matches the rare tone of spalted maple.
