ATSTK600, Multifunction Debug Kit ATSTK600 is a multifunction development tool from Atmel. It integrates hardware platform for breadboarding AVR-microcontroller devices and debugging tools. Together with the integrated programming environment AVR Studio STK600 it provides debugging in simulation and circuit emulation modes and programming via parallel and serial interfaces. It can also be used as in-circuit programmer of AVR-microcontroller external devices. STK600 is build similarly to the popular STK500 board for 8-bit AVR: all control components are placed on the baseplate, and microcontroller support is implemented using mezzanine modules. The main distinctions of STK600 are the following: - works with any 8- and 32-bit AVR microcontrollers with flash-memory (supports various microcircuit packages by using mezzanine modules); - supports new application programming interfaces (JTAG, PDI); - connects to a computer via USB; - may be powered through USB, if the peripherals connected to the baseplate consume no more than 300 mA. In addition, • greater number of expansion slots connected to the input/output ports of the microcontroller; • interfaces CAN, LIN, USB are supported; • unsoldered 4 Mbit DataFlash memory chip; • protective circuits against short circuits on the ISP, PDI and JTAG lines are added (to use STK600 as external devices chip programmer). To minimize consumer's expenses for high-priced ZIF-panels, STK600 mezzanine modules are now supplied not for a specific list of circuits, but for a specific type of chip package regardless of its architecture. For example, a mezzanine module with a ZIF-panel for the TQFP64 package will support all the AVR/AVR32/Xmega produced in this package. However, there is one peculiarity: the leads of the chips having the same package, but with different architectures are arranged in different ways. Therefore, for us to connect properly the leads of certain microcontroller installed in a ZIF-panel with the STK600 baseplate elements, an adapter board should be placed between them in order to connect this specific microchip with STK600 properly. Thanks to this Atmel's solution the support of the whole range of 8- and 32-bit AVRs produced in the same packages will be implemented with the help of a small number of boards with ZIF-panels and a wider set of adapter boards, which are relatively cheap. The complete set includes the following: ATSTK600 board; a mezzanine module with an ATmega2560 microcontroller; USB, power and interconnection cables; CD containing the AVR Studio 4 software environment and documentation. STK600 is used to develop devices bases on Atmel's AVR microcontrollers, at school laboratories, unassisted studies of microcontroller systems.
