Kidney stones (also called renal calculi, nephrolithiasis or urolithiasis) are hard deposits made of minerals and salts that form inside your kidneys. It may also be associated with certain medications used to treat migraines or seizures, such as topiramate. Calcium Oxalate Stones, make up to 60 to 80% of all kidney stones. 2. Uric acid stones. This type of kidney stone is the second most common. They can occur in people with gout, diabetes, obesity, and other types of metabolic syndrome. This type of stone develops when urine is too acidic. A diet rich in purines can increase urine's acidic level. Purine is a colorless substance in animal proteins, such as fish, shellfish, and meats. Uric Acid Stones, make up to 10% of all kidney stones. 3. Struvite stones. Struvite stones form in response to a urinary tract infection. These stones can grow quickly and become quite large, sometimes with few symptoms or little warning. Struvite kidney stones, make up to 5 to 7% of all kidney stones. 4. Cystine stones. These stones form in people with a hereditary disorder called cystinuria that causes the kidneys to excrete too much of a specific amino acid. According to National kidney foundation.
