Today on The Railway Room is a short look at Castlefinn, a superb 4mm narrow gauge model railway in 00n3, based on the former County Donegal Railway system in Ireland. Castlefinn was originally on the 5'3" gauge Finn Valley Railway, which was later regauged to 3' gauge and became part of the County Donegal Railways network. The station closed in 1960. This model by Laurence Wheeler and Chester Model Railway Club is set in the 1950s, and features a selection of appropriate CDR stock alongside occasional interlopers from the Tralee & Dingle and Isle of Man Railways. Layout Details: Scale/Gauge: 4mm Narrow Gauge, 12mm gauge (representing the 3ft gauge prototype). Prototype: Castlefinn Station, County Donegal Railway. Featured Action: Trains arriving and departing the meticulously detailed station buildings. Detailing: The station buildings are highly detailed scratch-built models, based on measurements taken from the surviving structures on the real site. Control: The layout is controlled by a touch-screen interface hooked up to a Lenz DCC system. Watch the steam and mixed trains of the Donegal system traverse this wonderfully detailed Irish landscape!
