Ride Report: Shingle Creek Regional Trail Date: Monday, February 16, 2026 (Presidents Day) Conditions: Overcast, post-cold front, highs in the upper 60s/low 70s. Post-Front Atmosphere After last night’s severe weather, the atmosphere on the trail today was notably different. The humidity has dropped significantly, and the persistent cloud cover gave the "Headwaters of the Everglades" a moody, serene feel. While the wind was likely a bit of a factor behind the front, it certainly helped clear out the usual Florida heat. The "Holiday" Crowds (or Lack Thereof) Despite being a federal holiday with schools out, the "struggling" temperatures seemed to be a natural deterrent. Traffic: Lower than expected for a long weekend. Vibe: Quiet and reflective; perfect for a solo or steady-paced ride. Surface: The paved and concrete sections (ranging from 12 to 14 feet wide) remain in excellent condition, though you might have spotted a few branches or debris from last night’s wind. Trail Highlights The Creek: Following the winding Shingle Creek, the trail offers a unique look at cypress swamps and wetlands that look particularly striking under grey, overcast skies. Wildlife: Cooler days often mean the gators are less likely to be basking, but the bird activity (Herons, Egrets, and Ibises) remains high. The Connection: Whether you were on the northern Orlando segment near Millenia/International Drive or the southern Osceola segment near Pioneer Village, the "green tunnel" effect provides a great escape from the surrounding urban sprawl. Trail Status Update Construction continues on the "missing links" of the Shingle Creek Regional Trail. The goal remains a 32-mile continuous path from Wekiva Springs all the way to Lake Tohopekaliga. Today’s ride proves that even on a "grey" day, this trail is one of the best ways to experience Florida's natural watershed.
