March is Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month. Matt Hazard, an avid runner from Tualatin, was in the best shape of his life and training for the Boston Marathon when he was diagnosed with stage-four cancer in 2024. He was just 40 years old. Matt is among the rising number of early-onset colorectal cancer patients. That's why he's advocating for early screening. Despite a grueling treatment, Matt continued to train for the 2025 Boston Marathon and successfully ran the challenging course on April 21, in 3 hours, 14 minutes, 42 seconds. Matt recently marked an even bigger milestone: he's one year NED (no evidence of disease) and truly believes that running through this journey has saved his life. Matt hopes to inspire others to “fight like hell.” Matt will be honored at the 2026 Cologuard Classic by Exact Sciences, a PGA TOUR Champions tournament in Tucson, along with hundreds of other patients, survivors and families impacted by the disease and advocating for the importance of screening and early detection. You can help Matt 's efforts to raise money and awareness for the Colon Cancer Coalition by joining him--as a walker or a runner--for the Get Your Rear In Gear 5k on August 8, 2026, at Tualatin Community Park.
