October 24, 2014 - On this week's edition of The Overtime the host is David Ahumada, the KJACK Sports Director, with Jacob Larsen as his co-host. Ahumada and Larsen discuss NAU Homecoming Game against the Eastern Washington Eagles. The Eagles are currently ranked 2 in the Big Sky Conference. For NAU to win this game, Larsen says the defense will have to slow the Eagles down and not allowing any easy plays. This will be a tough game for the Lumberjacks, but if they remain strong in all areas they could come out with the win. The NAU Women's basketball team in preparing for the upcoming season after losing starter Amanda Frost. However, the team has four returning starters whichcould lead to the team making some noise in the Sig Sky Conference. Players Brittani Lusain, Raven Anderson, and Erikka Banks all have the capability of dominating on the court this year. In Northland Prep Soccer, both teams have wrapped up regular season play. The Men's team ended the season ranked 12th and are waiting to hear whether they made it into post season play. The Women's soccer team ended the season ranked 3rd in their division and are hosting the first post season game next week. The NAU Cross Country Men's team dropped in their national ranking from 3rd to 10th. In order for the team to rise run the rankings top runners such as Matt McElroy need to step up and be leaders for the team. In the upcoming invitational, multiple runners need to finish at least in the top 80 to take the championship title. Guy Forbis sits down with Northland Prep Athletic Director, Mike Elder to discuss the growing athletic program at Northland Prep. Elder became the athletic director eight years ago and has increased the amount of sports offered from four to twelve. He hopes that in the future they will be able to play in a division with schools like Flag High and Coconino. Jason Friedman provides this weekend's sports schedule: In high school football, Flagstaff High School plays the Kingman Bulldogs at 7:00 p.m. on Friday at home. Coconino High School plays at Mingus also at 7:00 p.m. this Friday. In NAU athletics, The DII Ice Jacks play Cal State Northridge on Friday and Saturday at Jay Lively, both games will start at 8:30 p.m. The Women's Soccer team will be playing at Idaho State on Sunday at 12:00 p.m. The Women's Volleyball team is on the road to play Northern Colorado on Saturday at 6:00 p.m. Finally, We have the NAU Homecoming Game against the second ranked Eastern Washington Eagles on Saturday. Tailgating for the game begins at 10:00 a.m. and kickoff is at 12:40 p.m. in the Skydome.
