IV gauges 💉 💡The LOWER the gauge number, the LARGER the bore. Basically, it’s the opposite of what you would think. What are they used for? ➡️14 Gauge - Trauma, critical intervention, rapid resuscitation ➡️ 16 Gauge - Trauma, 🤕 surgeries, rapid fluid adm. ➡️ 18 Gauge - Administering blood, rapid infusions (bolus), CT scans with dye ➡️ 20 Gauge - Medications, routine therapies, IV fluids ➡️ 22 Gauge - IV fluids, medications ➡️ 24 Gauge - Pediatric patients,👶 the elderly, very fragile veins (those vein fragile and small veins) 🩸Blood Products🩸 Why are larger bore needles (18 gauge is the preferred method when administering blood) preferred for administration? What can happen if too small of a cath is utilized? #nursingstudent #nursingschool #nurseinthemaking #nclex #newgradrn #BSN #NCLEX #nursingnotes #nursingstudent #nursingschool #nurseinthemaking #nclex #newgradrn NURSING SCHOOL STUDY GUIDES: 🧠 – The Complete Nursing School Bundle – https://nurseinthemaking.co/nursingsc... – Nursing School Study Guides – https://nurseinthemaking.co/shop – FREE Guides– https://nurseinthemaking.co/free – Website – https://nurseinthemaking.co/shop STAY IN TOUCH💛 Subscribe: / @nurseinthemaking Instagram: / kristine_nurseinthemaking TikTok: / nurseinthemakingkristine A message from Kristine, founder of NurseInTheMaking📣 My name is Kristine and I survived nursing school…and you can too!
