Today, with David Allen MW we are tasting a 2021 Dry Riesling from Central Otago producer Felton Road. Felton Road are one of New Zealand's best known and most highly respected Pinot Noir producers, its wines are considered some of the best New World expressions of that variety. Felton Road also produces several surprisingly good white wines and this is a case in point. The estate is composed of four vineyards on warm, north-facing slopes in Bannockburn: the original Elms Vineyard, the MacMuir vineyard the Calvert and the Cornish vineyard. Elms was first planted in 1992 and is where the 'Block' series wines come from. Felton Road harvests grapes by hand, and follows the minimal intervention ethos in the winery, with gravity-fed systems, wild yeasts and no fining or filtering prior to bottling.
