With well-being on a downtrend in communities across the country, holding steady is considered a success. But what about reversing the trend? Through inspiration from her personal experience, grassroots community health transformations, research on the longest living populations around the world, and lived experience from individuals throughout her community, Juliete makes challenging a community’s health destiny and creating a new culture of well-being practical! Her work profits off of healing and wellness instead of sickness and exploitation. In her talk, she describes the layers of wellness that come together to create a cultural shift, like nudges at the physical level across sectors, living “on purpose”, authentic relationships, and beyond. Each individual can contribute and reap the benefits of vibrancy and longevity, but also the fruits of service and inspiring others. Creating a culture of well-being can start with one inspired individual, then two, and ripples out from there until a tipping-point is reached. In rural Oregon, and in communities across North America, learn how the downward trend is reversing and communities are learning how to thrive. Juliete is committed to the achievement of a vibrant and thriving community. She serves as a community leader for well-being in her roles as the Engagement Director for Blue Zones Project-Umpqua, Executive Director of UC-VEG, a Community Advisory Councilor for the Umpqua Health Alliance, and a board member of the Umpqua Valley Arts Association. Graduating with honors from Central Washington University, Juliete earned a degree in International Relations, with minors in Spanish, Latin American Studies, and Environmental Studies. Her professional background includes government, social services, and nonprofit management. She has had the privilege of traveling extensively and holds the breadth of experience gained from her national and international travels as invaluable. Juliete enjoys singing, spending time on the Umpqua river, yoga in the park, social justice, bringing people together, eating delicious plant-based foods, and laughing with friends and family. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at https://www.ted.com/tedx
