Dr. Camilo Gonzalez-Velazquez hosts this session and is joined by Dr. Mark Urken to discuss this interesting and timely topic. 0:00 Webinar 2:27 Dr. Brito presents 3:25 An Overview of Artificial Intelligence Dr. Brito provides an introductory background, with examples, of artificial intelligence (AI) encompassing machine learning (ML), deep learning (DL), and natural language processing (NLP), and transformer models. 9:10 Foundation Models Dr. Brito expands on AI techniques that develop and train models for multiple complex, specific tasks, which are known as foundation models (FM). The method in which they are trained and an assessment of their performance in a predictive NLP environment is discussed. 16:23 Current Landscape of AI in Thyroid Nodules Dr. Brito presents Koios, an FDA-approved AI-automated categorization tool for ultrasound-imaged thyroid nodules with significant utility in supporting the distinction between cancer and benign lesions. He also discusses PIUR Imaging, which generates 3D images of the thyroid nodule and can provide diagnostic information based on the structure of the nodules and guide down-the-line treatment decision making. ChatGPT can also be a new thyroid diagnostic. Dr. Brito assesses the computer vision (image processing) functionality of ChatGPT for detecting thyroid nodules via ultrasound.
