This simulated 911 call is showing the Emergency Medical Dispatching that Westcom applies to the medical 911 calls they get. This call is simulating a Cardiac Arrest/CPR call. Several factors improve survivability of patients experiencing an out of hospital cardiac arrest, a condition that most often occurs in the home and per the American Heart Association affects over 350,000 people per year. According to the American Heart Association, bystanders starting CPR before Fire and EMS personnel getting on scene can double or even triple survivability for that patient. Unfortunately, the AHA says only around 40% of out of hospital cardiac arrest patient's get bystander CPR. Westcom is working to change those numbers by implementing this Emergency Medical Dispatching. In this video you will see how the dispatcher gives the caller instructions on how to use an AED (a life saving tool in a cardiac arrest) and how to do chest compressions. These interventions done by the bystander are so vital to the patient and improving their survivability and thank's to Westcom's Emergency Medical Dispatching, more patients are getting that vital care prior to responders getting to them. While this simulated call is on a cardiac arrest, Westcom gives these life saving instructions on chest pain calls, trouble breathing calls, trauma and much, much more.
