Many bands do not get to go out on their own terms. Some split up acrimoniously, others decide to call it a day due to death in the band, while there are plenty of examples of bands just fading away into oblivion for no other reason than their time has come and gone. The above does not apply to New Zealand band Shihad, though, who have decided to call it a day as a band, with one final tour, after nearly 40 years as one of rock music’s leading lights in Aotearoa. Formed in 1988 in Wellington, Shihad - or Jon Toogood, Tom Larkin, Phil Knight, and Karl Kippenberger - have been so omnipresent within the music scene in Aotearoa that the fact they are choosing to go their separate ways will no doubt be a surprise to many. Speaking to Stuff about the decision to retire the band, frontman Jon Toogood says life got in the way. | Subscribe: https://bit.ly/2JPg8oB Read more: For full coverage visit www.Stuff.co.nz Subscribe to our channel: https://bit.ly/2JPg8oB ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Stuff is New Zealand's largest and most popular news site.
