The parallel hybrid system of MY Vanadis, developed by CCN in collaboration with Siemens and Schottel, allows more propulsive efficiency, ensuring low consumption and limited environmental impact, as well as increased onboard comfort thanks to reduced noise and vibrations both at anchor and when cruising. MY Vanadis is inaugurating the “E-Prop” line, i.e. CCN’s new line of hybrid propulsion crafts. Operation modes for propulsion: 1) DIESEL 2) ELECTRIC 3) DP Mode 1) During this mode the main propulsion is granted by traditional diesel engines C9.3 by Caterpillar • the e-motor can run freely on the shaftline without voltage on the terminal; • the e-motor can be used for power generation for hotel loads or batteries re-charge. 2) Electric mode with engine diesel clutch disengaged (diesel engine off) . In this case yacht is driven only electrically by shaft e-motor (55kW each). The required power can be generated by 3 different power sources, that can be also combined : • 1 or 2 variable speed gensets powered by Caterpillar (Diesel- electric propulsion); This mode shall be applied for slow speed maneuvering, DP operation and slow speed continuous sailing. • Lithium-ion battery pack by AKASOL with 5 scalable modules for a total of 175 kWh (Full Electric- propulsion); [180 min. propulsion sailing at 5knots ; 15h hotel at anchor] 3) Dynamic Positioning System during Diesel-electric propulsion. Automatic and manual position and heading control engineered by XENTA, interfacing Schottel STP units and Bow Thruster unit.
