This mini-documentary about the wide variety of businesses that were once in ’Sconset was produced for the 2008 exhibition ’Sconset 02564 at the Nantucket Whaling Museum. It includes excerpts from a series of oral histories of ’Sconset residents conducted by the NHA in 1976 and 2007 along with archival video and photos on the topic. In this video, Joan Pennock Craig (1920–2011) remembers how you didn’t need to go to Town because ‘Sconset had everything: restaurants, gift shops, a market, a garage, shoe shine stand, art galleries, hairdressers, and more. Sheila Folger Todd (1936–) and Martha Holdgate Butler (1929–) remember eating at the Dine-A-Mite restaurant. Walter Folger (1924–2017) recalls the Western Union telegraph store, A&P market, Larry Welch's butcher shop, bathing shops down on the beach, Mrs. Morris' ice cream shop, and his mother's own Wander Inn restaurant. Joan Brown Porter (1930–) recalls Cliff Eddy's soda fountain with wonderful candy counter, Gordon and Arlene's market, the laundromat, and Island Lumber. Philip Morris (1898–1988) talks about their ice cream business in his early teens. And Linda Holland remembers the treat of eating at the Daisy Cott restaurant before movies at the ‘Sconset Casino.
