Stradbally Market House in the Market Square was erected in 1899 on the site of the previous stone built Market House and Court House that had been granted by Royal Charter to the town in 1740. The present Market House is dedicated to memory of Dr. William Percival a much respected local dispensary doctor who was held in high esteem by all the classes and creeds in the town. He practiced in the town for over 50 years. The funding for the Market Square was headed by Major Sidney Cosby of Cosby Hall and subscriptions were received from both the local gentry and clergy. The Market House is an open shelter with a very distinctive pagoda roof of steel corrugated iron construction and it greatly enhances the heritage of the town. A magnificent marble plaque with the achievements of the good doctor is the focal point of the edifice. It has protected status and is unique in its design.
