#cornwall #penzance #walkingtour #travel Penzance, in West Cornwall, is the most westerly major town in England, and it’s best known for its picturesque seafront, mild climate, and strong maritime history. It sits on Mount’s Bay, with views of St Michael’s Mount, and has long been a hub for fishing, trade, and travel across the Celtic Sea. What Penzance is famous for its Maritime history & smuggling. In the 17th and 18th centuries, Penzance and the Cornish coast were notorious for piracy and smuggling. The rocky coves and hidden inlets made it ideal for illicit trade, while Barbary pirates were known to raid Cornish settlements. The Barbary pirate raids – In 1595, Penzance was attacked and set on fire by Spanish forces during the Anglo-Spanish War. Later, Barbary corsairs (pirates from North Africa) raided Cornwall, capturing people for slavery – adding to its pirate-infused folklore. Pirates of Penzance – The town’s name became world-famous thanks to Gilbert and Sullivan’s comic opera (1879), The Pirates of Penzance, which satirised Victorian society. Although the story is fictional, the title cemented the town’s association with pirates in popular imagination. Smuggler’s reputation – The surrounding Cornish coast was a centre for smuggling goods like brandy, tea, and tobacco in the 18th–19th centuries. Many taverns and old houses in Penzance and nearby villages have legends tied to this. Today Penzance celebrates its swashbuckling reputation with pirate-themed festivals and events (including attempts at the world record for the largest gathering of pirates). At the same time, it’s a cultural centre with galleries, historic architecture, and as the gateway to the Isles of Scilly. 📍 : Penzance, Cornwall 📆 : April 2025 🌤️ : Sunny Hot 📸 : DJI Osmo Action 5 🎤 : DJI Mic 2 💻 : Macbook Pro 🎬 : Final Cut Pro Playlists Cornwall • 🏴 Cornwall Spain • 🇮🇹 Italy Italy • 🇪🇸 Spain Thailand : • 🇹🇭 Thailand Drone • Cinematic Drone Footage Socials ✅ TikTok : / ginger_beard_drones ✅ Instagram : / gingerbeardwalksanddrones ✅ Facebook : https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?...
