This is the first of five Republic of Kiribati films in the Te Ribana Series which showed at the 2008 FestPAC in American Samoa. Te Ribana means to nurture, sustain and protect. You will be enchanted, excited and hanging onto every word while viewing the charm of Kiribati but also the dark side of island living. One film was playing at the airport while we were waiting for our flight. It wasn't finished by the time we had to get on the plane and I was frustrated to have to leave. Happily we were able to view it later when we were given permission by Linda Uan, producer, to play all the films on our Hawaii Olelo television channel. Thank you! By the way, Kiribati is pronounced "Kiribas". Please view the 2024 FestPAC Honolulu Hawaii video of the Kiribati children dancing! • FESTPAC 2024 KIRIBATI DANCERS & SINGERS, H... Please pray for our Pacific Islander brothers and sisters in Kiribati as their island home is currently being threatened by rising waters. Most of the country's islands are only a few meters above sea level, making them highly vulnerable to inundation and coastal erosion. The rising sea is already causing frequent flooding, saltwater intrusion into freshwater sources, and damage to infrastructure and agriculture. The Kiribati government is exploring options to raise the islands by importing materials to build up the land, but this is a costly and complex undertaking. The government has also purchased land in Fiji as a potential relocation site for its population, although this is a last resort. Dear Kiribati Family -- Have you checked out the country of Brunei's Water Village? Over 1,000 years old, had 30,000 people but now about 13,000 people. It is the largest water village in the world. It might be a way to stay. We plan to visit it at the end of the year and will film it. Aloha! Here's a preview: • Largest Water Village In The World - Kampo...
