The idea of being trapped and put in a cage, with nowhere to run to has always been an interesting concept for me. Almost always tight confined spaces aren’t exactly the first choice for telling any kind of visual story with four people. As soon as Timbo showed me this side entrance of Johnny’s Bar I knew this was exactly the right spot for SpeedBuggyUSA’s video ‘Run With The Wolves’ Thirty Eight inches across was all we had to work with and to make it all fit. Mikers stacked in and made his kit a somewhat hybrid version to say the least. Patrick and Steve found their zones between the smoke and haze we pumped in nicely. Timbo had a killer super hard lensed backlight screaming down the set from above and he took full advantage of it. Once we had the concept worked out keeping it as simple as possible was key. Shooting in one direction with no cross cover angles meant this video would be forced to discover its own style. Lighting and atmosphere were huge mood setting drivers and backed up our theme of running with the pack nicely. I don’t think the containment comes across as tight as it actually was. The band made this come alive and brought a darker energy though movement, clothing, and really just overall vibe. This is a fun simple slice of what SpeedBuggyUSA is all about. Staying true to their purpose of gritty tones & lyrical storytelling. I can’t wait to hear new tracks from these guys! Daniel Farnam
