Three separate shootings over the weekend left two people dead and nine others injured across Asheville, prompting multiple ongoing investigations by the Asheville Police Department. Police say the incidents, which occurred between early Saturday morning and early Monday morning, are not believed to be connected. "It was a very violent weekend – deeply concerning and disturbing," said Captain Joe Silberman with the Asheville Police Department. Silberman said several teams of detectives are now working the cases alongside the department's technology unit and outside law enforcement partners. "We have multiple different teams of detectives working in conjunction with people from our technology division," Silberman said. "We've also reached out to outside agencies to provide technical support in three different violent crime investigations." The first homicide occurred early Saturday morning, March 7, near Granada Street. Officers responded around 12:20 a.m. to a report of a gunshot victim and found 27-year-old Eric Lee Anderson Lordman Jr. dead from multiple gunshot wounds, according to police. The second homicide happened early Monday morning, March 9, on Patton Avenue near New Leicester Highway. Officers responded around 1:04 a.m. and located William Wyatt Adair, 20, who had died from a gunshot wound. Before officers could take the suspect into custody, he produced a handgun and shot himself in the head. Police said he was taken to Mission Hospital and remains in critical condition, but the injury was non-fatal. Silberman said detectives are working closely with victims' families as the investigations continue. "These are both awful tragedies for both of those families," Silberman said. "Both of these were young men who still had a lot of life left to live." The third incident happened early Sunday morning in downtown Asheville. Police responded around 3:13 a.m. on March 8 to reports of gunfire in the 100 block of North Lexington Avenue. According to police, seven people were struck by stray gunfire or bullet fragments, while one person was injured while attempting to reach safety, and another person suffered a concussion after being assaulted. All nine victims were treated and released from the hospital. Police say detectives have identified a person of interest and continue to pursue leads. Silberman said the shooting occurred on the street near bars as crowds were leaving the area. "That was right around the time bars would have let out," Silberman said. "You have crowds in the street, alcohol and large gatherings, which can increase the chance of some kind of altercation." Silberman also credited officers for quickly responding to the scene. An officer patrolling nearby Rankin Avenue heard the gunfire and arrived within seconds, he said.
