Turbo Bypass Valve Operation and Testing – Vacuum Controlled | Tech Tip

In this demonstration, we show you how to operate and test the bypass valve on my charger, which is a vacuum actuator. First, we will remove the bypass valve from the turbocharger itself. Then, we'll apply a vacuum to the valve and ensure that it holds the vacuum without popping off. As the vacuum is released, the spring inside the valve will return it back to its closed position. The bypass valve operates on the inside of the turbocharger. When it's pulled up, it opens a passage, allowing air from the compressor wheel to pass through here instead of going into the exhaust. This diverted air continues its journey and goes through the air filter. With this simple test, you can check the functionality of the bypass valve without having to remove the entire turbocharger. It ensures that the valve is working correctly and allows for proper air circulation in the turbocharger system.
