The purpose of this didactic is to improve junior EM researchers’ ability to develop and “pitch” a research proposal to a group of experienced research mentors. In this didactic, a panel of senior EM researchers will highlight critical elements of a junior research pilot, study, or grant proposal and provide real-time feedback to participants. Attendees will leave the didactic better prepared to summarize, formulate, and implement truly successful emergency and acute care research studies. A perennial issue for junior EM investigators is lack of guidance in, and experience with, development and funding of initial, small-scale study proposals to build data for larger research studies. Many senior investigators believe that creating and getting funding for a research proposal is similar to the entrepreneurial process of developing and obtaining funding for a business proposal. Drawing on the innovative and humorous format of the popular “Shark Tank” television show, adapted for our specialty, this didactic will include a panel of senior EM researchers who will provide real-time guidance on this model of proposal development.
