On Tuesday, Ontario Premier Doug Ford reacted to U.S. president-elect Donald Trump's announcement of a proposed 25 per cent tariff on goods from Canada and Mexico, criticizing a comparison of the two countries. "What I found unfair about the comments is to compare us to Mexico. And I can tell you, Canada is no Mexico," Ford said. Ford and other Canadian premiers called for an urgent meeting with Prime Minister Trudeau to formulate a strategy to prepare for the new administration. Ford added that "We need to make sure that he has a strong plan to protect and secure our borders, and make sure we address the threat from the U.S." "And I want to emphasize: To compare us to Mexico, this is the most insulting thing I've ever heard from our friends and closest allies," Ford said.
