Our mission recently has been to find and breed a good dual purpose chicken. We have had Buckeyes, Cornish Cross and a plethora of layered hens, but when hatching our own we struggle getting a decent meat bird. Our next project is the Turkin. This is supposed to be a good meat bird, 6-7lbs cleaned, and in only 25-30 weeks of age. Not nearly as fast as Cornish Cross, but I don’t want to be dependent on buying chicks or having to ship them to our house. After getting the Turkins settled in, we attempt to get some dewormer on one of our Angus cross cows. She was looking a little thin, and we have seen multiple of our calves nursing off of just her, so we also put her in a different pasture with the milk cows for a week or two.
