It is a critical parameter in the assessment of neurological conditions and brain health. The balance between the volume of the brain, CSF, and blood determines ICP, which typically ranges from 7 to 15 mm Hg in adults. Maintaining an appropriate ICP is crucial for normal brain function, as imbalances can lead to severe neurological complications or even death. ➡️ An increase in ICP may be caused by several factors, including the following: Brain swelling (edema) Hemorrhage Tumors Excess CSF production Elevated ICP can compress and damage brain tissue, impair blood flow, and lead to life-threatening conditions, including brain herniation.
