Special guest: Galaxip C5! Galaxian was the first arcade game with true colour-generated graphics, released back in 1979 by Namco. It used the Z80 CPU. Spectrum programmers took the conversion quite seriously, as you can see on both examples here. Atarisoft's effort - the game really tries to replicate the arcade machine. Obviously the code is only driven by Z80 itself on Sinclair, no other custom chips. Long before the official Galaxian release, famous Artic Computing released their own "bootleg" called Galaxians! And one has to admit, their version is even better one! Well, surely, the Spectrum variants are far from perfect, and can hardly touch Namco's nearly perfect translation to Nintendo NES, but I still say Galaxian(s) on Spectrum are good. For the best version up-to-date please look for PSX Playstation's Namco Museum Vol. 3 - there you have a pixel perfect conversion that has a screen area rebuilt for horizontal CRT (original machine has a vertical display such as modern shooters like Raiden; and they simply moved the score area) - the only correct way to preserve old arcade games.
