In today’s episode of Truth Wanted, Kelley Laughlin and Detroit Atheist Queen explore the possibilities of alien life outside of earth as they work through how to talk with religious friends. How would the confirmation of alien life change your conversations with your religious friends? Jon in Canada wants to know what the hosts’ opinions on alien life are. Detroit Queen’s opinion changed throughout the years and enjoys watching sci-fi stuff but does not see evidence to believe it is real. Kelley thinks it is probable there is some kind of alien life, but is unsure what that life is or how far from us it could be. If all the building blocks for life have been found on asteroids, what are the chances of there being life on the bodies where this is found? Jon recommends some fun and interesting movies for us to check out that play with these possibilities. Sarah from Indiana wants to know how to talk with her friend that uses Christianity as her coping mechanism and whenever the subject of religion comes up, things end up getting tense. It helps to approach this by telling your friend how you feel about discussing this. If things get tense when you are questioning the Bible, could this friend be viewing these questions as an attack on the thing she is using to comfort her? You can try discussing the parts of the Bible that she does not bring up rather than asking her about parts of the Bible that she uses to cope with things. If you find things that you like to do together, that can reinforce that bond you have and preserve the friendship. Thank you for joining us this week!
