In Episode 308 of Witty CFB, host Rob Sheply explains why Northwestern hiring Chip Kelly as their new offensive coordinator is a home run hire with essentially no risk whatsoever. Because he has essentially accomplished everything in his career, there is no pressure. He can do what he does best, which is, at this point in his career, being a terrific playcaller and being a mentor to what's still a very young coaching staff. Kelly has extensive experience coaching all over the country and the draw of Chip Kelly is players wanting to be coached by him, not necessarily Kelly having to recruit himself, which is something he has not been great at over the course of his career. The Wildcats ranked No. 96 in the country in both total offense and scoring offense this season. Kelly also went 35-34 over a six-year stretch as head coach at UCLA before joining Ryan Day's 2024 staff with the Buckeyes. Per 247Sports, the Class of 2026 is the highest ranked group in Braun’s three-year tenure as Northwestern’s head coach---54th in the nation and 14th in the Big Ten. It also features Braun’s first consensus four-star recruit in wide receiver Jaden McDuffie, and highly touted three-star offensive tackle Jack Fuchs, who decommitted from Penn State. It is their largest class since 2003. #northwesternwildcats #northwesternfootball #chipkelly #bigtenfootball #bigtenconference #collegefootballnews Photo Credit Andres Leighton AP Press
