We do monthly collaborations, behind the scenes experiments, share our beautiful art, new and crazy ideas for techniques, and trouble shoot problems together! https://www.patreon.com/user?u=51617311 Here are my Keys to Success for this Blow, Flick & Spin technique: 1. I used a consistency that left a mound-on-a-mound when drizzled off of the stir stick, so a medium consistency. 2. Let your paints sit for several hours before using them to reduce the amount of air bubbles when you pour. As a general rule, the thicker the consistency of your paints, the longer it takes for the bubbles to rise through the paint and release. For these thicker consistency paints, I let them sit (covered) for about 24 hours before using them. 3. This technique needs a base coat. You need a vehicle for the other paints to travel across the canvas on. I spread my base coat out using an Oxo omelet spatula and then spun it out to leave just a thin layer of paint. 4. Once you have your base coat down, layer your design colors either in lines or in puddles. I generally start with the color that has the most contrast with the base coat. For this pour, I decided to do it in a circle. I used a string to find the center, and a round object of the size I wanted to dip a guide line, and then layered my colors in a line on top of each other. 5. I started blowing out the puddles with my mouth, using strong puffs to create movement and splatters. Because the canvas was on a spinner, it was easy to alternate the direction of each puff to create a layered look. 6. After a couple of good spins to get the paint spread out a bit, I added a bit more of the lighter colors in puddles before dipping using my finger to flick the paint out a couple of times. I then dipped a balloon to create the center of the flower. 7. You may be tempted to leave it as it is at this point, but there is too much paint still on the canvas...so a few more spins are necessary to avoid cracking. 8. This technique is great for all experience levels - but it does take some practice. Experiment and have fun! Colors Used: Liquitex Basics Deep Violet + DecoArt Metallics Berry Chromacryl Acrylic Essentials White + DecoArt Satin Enamels White DecoArt 24K Gold + Golden's Fluid Acrylics Quinacridone Nichol Azo Gold This Little Piggy Pigments Frost + Mermaid My pouring medium is 2 parts Floetrol to 1 part PVA glue and 1 part gloss varnish. My paints were mixed 5 parts pouring medium to 1 part paint, plus a little water to thin. My base coat was thinned down more than the pour paints.
