The Medicare Summary Notice (MSN) is a quarterly statement, not bill or invoice, from Medicare, outlining Medicare covered services during that 3-month time. While we often hear from people that they don’t regularly look at their MSNs, it is important to review this regularly to make sure that it is an accurate reflection of your Medicare covered services. Specifically, you are looking for accurate information including visit dates, providers/facilities that are familiar to you, and descriptions of services received. Red Flags would include a provider name/facility that is not familiar to you, double billing for services, or services that are listed that were not ordered by your health care provider or that you did not receive. If you have questions about claim information, contact your provider for additional information. You can also call the Wisconsin Senior Medicare Patrol, (888) 818-2611.
