Sierra games released before 1992 did not support General Midi based sound cards, but supported the Roland MT-32. This means today that unless you have soundfonts that emulate that particular device (like MUNT for example) you will end up with distorted music and even missing instruments. Sierra released a patch back in 1993 to add general midi support to some of their games. (Look further down the description for timecodes) This video shows footage from Leisure Suit Larry 1 VGA and Leisure Suit Larry 5 which both came out in 1991. Soundfont used is the Timbres Of Heaven one I have been using quite a bit lately. The patch adds general midi support to the following games: "EcoQuest 1 Hoyle 3 Leisure Suit Larry 1 (Enhanced Version) Leisure Suit Larry 5 Robin Hood: Conquest of the Longbow Space Quest 1 (Enhanced Version) Space Quest 4 Mixed Up Fairy Tales" (Enhanced Version means the VGA remakes) Link to patch download site: http://sierrahelp.com/Utilities/Sound... Timecodes: Before patch: 0:10 Leisure Suit Larry 1 VGA intro (Larry theme by Al Lowe) 1:51 short sample of bar music by Chris Braymen 3:53 sample of Leisure Suit Larry 5 intro (music by Al Lowe, Chris Braymen and Craig Safan) 7:21 sample of "Whoz On Top?" (radio acts like a jukebox) 12:32 sample of "K-RAP Talk" After patch: 2:05 Leisure Suit Larry 1 VGA intro 3:15 slightly longer sample of bar music 8:31 Leisure Suit Larry 5 intro (notice the pacing difference) 11:33 "Whoz On Top?" (notice the addition of instruments previously missing) 13:56 "K-RAP Talk"
