Society is wrong, of course… But that doesn’t mean we still don’t feel the pressure to do it all, the guilt for not being able to or the gratitude when he does even a little bit. We have been conditioned to throw a parade for men doing so little and yet so much more is just expected of women. We do it to ourselves sometimes yes, but it’s also perpetuated by society around us. You aren’t helping your partner by doing the dishes or folding the family laundry just like he isn’t helping you. It shouldn’t be inherently the role of gender. Maintaining home is both partners responsibility. OF COURSE if he works outside the home and you don’t, the split is not going to be 50/50 at home, but it shouldn’t bee 100/0 either. OF COURSE we should show gratitude to our partners for the work they do thats paid or unpaid, but we should also receive it, and to the same degree. If you aren’t applauding moms for taking their kids to the park you shouldn’t be applauding dads. Let’s applaud all parents for the hard work they do to raise kids and provide for them, but lets level the playing field because the way it is is not only exhausting but its unfair.
