Immerse yourself in the timeless beauty of classical Arabic poetry with this visual interpretation of one of the most celebrated ghazals (love poems) of the medieval Arabic tradition: “يَا لَيْلُ الصَّبُّ مَتَى غَدُهُ؟” (O Night of the Lover — When Will Its Dawn Come?), written by the famed Andalusian-Maghrebi poet Ali ibn Abd al-Ghani al-Husri al-Qayrawani (الحُصْري القيرواني). Follow my Socials: Instagram: @heymohiuddin Tiktok: @heymohiuddin About The Poet: Al-Qayrawani was born blind in Qayrawan (present-day Tunisia) around 420 AH (c. 1029 CE) and died in 488 AH (c. 1095 CE). He was a master of classical Arabic poetry, admired across Al-Andalus and the Maghreb, and respected for both his literary genius and deep linguistic knowledge. He memorized the Qur’an and Prophetic narrations, studied Arabic with the leading scholars of his time, and served at the courts of the rulers of his era — especially as a poet of the powerful Taifa king al-Mu‘tamid ibn ‘Abbâd. His work influenced generations of Arabic poets, and this poem remains one of the most quoted and beloved in the canon. In this video, the literal English translation accompanies atmospheric visuals inspired by the poem’s imagery, the restless lover beneath the stars, night’s sorrow, and the delicate presence of the beloved as a dreamlike figure. ⭐️ No music is used in the audio. ⚠️ Disclaimer: All visuals are artistic interpretations and do not depict real historical individuals or events.
