Our first video on Mick Ronson focused on Mick's humble upbringing on Greatfield Estate, Hull. We now want to carry on with this theme by relating the story of a little known connection between the band Slade and Hull. Greatfield Estate in particular. In this second video of our "Slade in Hull" series we meet Matt Harvey - a talented local musician and performer, who just happens to be Dave Hill's nephew. We interviewed Matt during a family party at his home in West Hull on a sunny summer day. Being a family member you might expect Matt to have a fund of 'never heard before' inside knowledge and stories of his uncle's band. He did not disappoint. Did anyone know that Dave Hill 'stole' Jimmy Page's (Led Zeppelin) Gibson guitar? This is also the story of another of Dave Hill's guitars. A 1980s Gibson that was given to Matt by his uncle Dave as a gift. Howard offers to 'set-up' this guitar in order to return it to its full potential. You can watch a part of this process in action. Finally, see the end results of Howards efforts as he performs the brilliant 16 bar guitar solo from Slade's 1976 hit 'Let's Call It Quits' (ably accompanied by Mike, and Howard's son Ashley). It rounds off the video beautifully.
