Tarafa was one of the Mu'llaqat poets. His rebellious nature and satirical poetry got him into trouble with the king Amr ibn Hind. The sequence of events ended with him being executed at the age of 26 by the governor of Bahrain by order of the king. In response, Tarafa's tribe revolted against the governor and took revenge. Years before the king himself was kill ed by another poet. This is the longest one of the Mu'llaqat, in which he describes his longing for his beloved Khawla, likens her to a gazelle, describes his she-camel in many verses, then he boasts himself and blames his cousin for not helping him in retrieving the herd of Tarafa's brother, which was confiscated by another tribe.
