Combustion is a process of burning in the presence of oxygen. An activity in which we cover the mouth of burning candle with flame & then see that candle stops burning. This is because supply of oxygen is cut Substance that catches fire are Combustible substance or Flammable substance. All Combustible substances are flammable, but all flammable substances are not fuel. As Fuel is the substance which we use for any purpose like driving, cooking food, burning coal etc. Combustion is of Four Types - Spontaneous like Sodium & Potassium. Even at room temperature it will spontaneously burn. Explosion in which substance burns with heat, light & explosion like Crackers Slow Combustion - Its when a substance burns slowly with glow like Coal & for long time Rapid Combustion - In this type substance burns instantly when ignition temperature is reached. Eg : Burning of LPG Candle Flame has 3 parts Dark Zone - No Combustion Blue Zone- Complete Combustion Yellow Zone - Incomplete Combustion Ideal Fuel 1. Should not release Unburnt Carbon particles 2. Should not produce harmful gases like Carbon monoxide due to incomplete combustion 3. Carbondioxide produced can cause Global Warming 4.
