After delivering vital parts to the island of Tinian for the atomic bomb that would be dropped on Hiroshima, the heavy cruiser USS Indianapolis was struck by two enemy torpedoes on July 29, 1945. The ship sank in twelve minutes. Over 900 members of her crew abandoned ship drifting into shark infested waters where they awaited rescue for four days and five nights. Harlan Twible was one of 317 of the ship's 1,196 crew members to survive the attack and rescue. Hear him recount this harrowing event.
