Military helps build new a hospital in Bucharest

(19 Mar 2020) Romanian military personnel helped with the construction of a new hospital in Bucharest aimed at helping the country deal with a growing number of coronavirus cases. On Thursday, members of the 6th Military Engineering Battalion carried out levelling work with heavy machinery and oversaw construction of the facility, which is being built on the outskirts of the capital. The new makeshift hospital will contain a triage area, laboratories, as well as facilities for x-ray, sterilisation and decontamination. Construction of the hospital began after President Klaus Iohannis declared a minimum 30-day state of emergency for the country from Monday. The decree allows authorities to allocate new resources to manage the coronavirus crisis as well as streamline the decision-making process. Romania has recorded at least 277 cases of the new virus, according to John Hopkins University, who is tracking the outbreak.
