Liver Cancer (Hepatocellular Carcinoma) Signs & Symptoms (Why They Occur & Metastases) Liver cancer (Hepatocellular Carcinoma) is a cancer of the liver, an organ located in the right upper quadrant of the abdomen. The liver has an enormous number of functions including synthesis of clotting factors and detoxification. Hepatocellular carcinoma is often a condition that is diagnosed via screening, so many times it is diagnosed and found when the patient is asymptomatic. However, in the case where it wasn’t found via screening, some of the most common symptoms of liver cancer include constitutional symptoms, including weight loss and fatigue. In this lesson, we discuss the most common signs and symptoms of liver cancer including paraneoplastic syndromes, and we also discuss common locations with liver cancer will metastasize.
