https://papastronsay.blogspot.com/ https://papastronsay.com/benefactor/ Today is Friday, traditionally dedicated to honoring the Passion and Death of Our Lord Jesus Christ, and we meditate on powerful readings from: The Roman Martyrology The Glories of Mary by St. Alphonsus Liguori The Passion and Death of Jesus Christ Reflections on mastering the passions Purgatory Explained – St. Catherine of Siena We begin with the commemoration of the holy martyrs under Emperor Diocletian, whose number is known to God alone. After enduring scourging, beasts, fire, and the sword, they obtained the palm of martyrdom. From The Glories of Mary, we reflect on Mary as the heavenly dove, the Mediatrix who brought peace between God and fallen mankind. As the dove returned to Noah with the olive branch, so Our Lady brought us Jesus Christ — the source of mercy and salvation. We then meditate deeply on the humiliations of Christ during His Passion: Struck before the High Priest Spit upon Mocked and declared guilty of death Silent like a lamb before His shearers “If this medicine cannot cure our pride, I know not what can.” – St. Augustine We also reflect on the spiritual life: The life of animals (ruled by appetite) The life of men (struggle between flesh and spirit) The life of angels (fixed on God) Are we ruled by reason enlightened by faith — or by passion? Finally, we hear the moving account of St. Catherine of Siena, who willingly accepted suffering so that her father might bypass purgatory and enter heaven immediately. Her story reminds us of: The reality of purgatory The power of redemptive suffering The communion of saints The merit of voluntary sacrifice May this meditation strengthen you in humility, mortification, patience, and holy love. “Our hearts are made for Thee, O Lord, and they are restless until they rest in Thee.” – St. Augustine
