Blck Vlvt is a bio-electric artwork made of glass cells that are hand-painted using the leaf- and fruit colorants of the Baroa b.* plant. They make up a functional solar panel painting whereby the natural colours transform light into electricity. They are made and applied whilst interpreting the colours and patterns of J. M. William Turner’s famous painting `Snow Storm—Steam-Boat off a Harbour's Mouth making Signals in Shallow Water, and going by the Lead. The Author was in this Storm on the Night the Ariel left Harwich (Exh. 1842)´. The work is made by the Aamo artscience group that is composed of artist Bartaku (School of Arts, Design and Architecture), and scientists Janne Halme (School of Science), Paulo Pinho (School of Electrical Engineering) and Merja Penttilä (School of Chemical Engineering and VTT). Since 2017 Aamo interweaves various Schools of Aalto University, disciplines, matter and entities. Blck Vlvt is instigated and energized by Baroa belaobara: it is the letter sequence that artist Bartaku experienced at the Baroa b. plantation in Aizpute, Latvia on Sept. 11, 2015. Baroa b. is the eternally failing attempt to fixate the ever-changing scientific name of the plant that currently is mostly referred to as Aronia melanocarpa.
