We continue our Portland series with the William Fletcher House, tucked quietly into the trees of Portland, Oregon, the personal residence of one of Oregon's renowned architect William Fletcher, FAIA, is more than a mid-century home. It is a lived-in story of design, family, and legacy. Built as his own retreat, the house reflects Fletcher’s architectural philosophy: thoughtful siting, a deep connection to the surrounding landscape, and a modern sensibility rooted in warmth and function. Every line, material choice, and window placement speaks to a designer shaping not just a structure, but a way of living. In this film, his son, William Fletcher, returns to his childhood home. Walking through the spaces where he grew up, he reflects on what it meant to be raised inside his father’s personal residence, where the woods were part of everyday life and modern architecture quietly shaped his earliest memories. Through his stories, the house reveals itself not just as architecture, but as a deeply personal landscape of memory. We also meet the loving new homeowners John & Nikki, who have embraced the house wholeheartedly, preserving its character and honoring its spirit while allowing it to continue evolving. Their care ensures that the life within these walls carries forward thoughtfully and respectfully. This is the story of a mid-century house in Portland, Oregon and the generations who continue to keep its character alive.
