She was the fifth child and third daughter of the family. She studied in Pabna city. She was the granddaughter of poet Rajnikant Sen.[9] In 1947, Suchitra Sen married Dibanath Sen, son of prominent industrialist Adinath Sen.[10] Their only daughter, Moonmoon Sen, is also a renowned actress. Suchitra Sen joined the Bengali film industry in 1952.[11] Pabna Memorial Museum, Bangladesh Cinema career Edit She started her film career in 1952 with the film Shesh Kothi, but the film was not released.[12] Honors Edit Suchitra Sen is the first actress in Bengali cinema to receive an award from an international film festival. She won the Best Actress Award at the Moscow Film Festival in 1963 for her outstanding performance in the film Saat Pakke Bandha.[12] She won the Best Actress Award for her first Hindi film, Devdas (1955). She is best known for creating romanticism in Bengali films, along with Uttam Kumar. Her films were released in the 1960s and 1970s. She continued to act even after her husband's death, such as the Hindi film Andhi. In this film, she played the role of a leader. It is said that the inspiration for the character came from Indira Gandhi. For this film, she received a Filmfare Best Actress nomination, and Sanjeev Kumar, who played her husband, won the Best Actor Award. The Dadasaheb Bhushan is awarded annually by the Government of India in recognition of significant contributions to Hindi cinema. Suchitra Sen refused to accept this prestigious award. In 2005, she declined the Dadasaheb Phalke Award.
