Ingrowing Toenail - Winograd Procedure

Here is my technique for performing a Winograd procedure. It is a great procedure for recurrent and painful ingrowing toenails. I regularly perform chemical ablation of the nail matrix with phenol (the equivalent here would be a partial nail avulsion with matrix phenolisation). I use the Winograd procedure to revise failed phenolisations or if a patient prefers an incisional procedure. I have been using this technique for a few years now and have had consistently good results. The benefit (as in this case) is that I can remodel the soft skin at the side of the nail plate to reduce recurrence risk. Most patients heal in 2 weeks and sutures are removed at that point.
