14 The Appuntata - an time thrust in the riposte - an advanced technique for HEMA smallsword

In our instructional 010 series for traditional Italian fencing with the smallsword we do a large step further to an action in tempo - the appuntata. This technique is a time hit not in the cavazione as we practise it since the second exercise but into an riposte of the opponent. Done in the right tempo it is a frightening thrust, but on the other hand it is not easy to execute! Olympic fencing is familiar with what we do, but historical fencing or HEMA follows more the old rule of not getting hit as it were an martial art. It is not optimised for a competition, that is probably the main different!. We follow the book "Scuola della spada from Paolo de Scalzi from 1853. He taught the sword or epee that way as it were a sharp weapon and you better don't get hit.
