The stunning wildlife and landscapes of northern Minnesota as seen from a beaver dam deep in the Kabetogama Peninsula wilderness in Voyageurs National Park! This video is the ‘sequel' to our most recent video—“A beaver dam: summer to fall"—which we shared a few weeks ago. This beaver dam was right on the border of two wolf packs— Nashata and Shoepack Lake—so we set-up this camera in hopes of getting video footage of these packs. Fortunately, this worked as we hoped it would! The Nashata Pack is seen most frequently in this video. The pack has a very distinctive looking breeding female and a collared wolf in it (Wolf V074). The breeding female is the wolf who bedded down right in front of the camera toward the end of the video. She can also be seen “slipping” on the ice in another clip. Worth noting: We had a very cold stretch last fall for several weeks in October during which all the ponds and lake edges froze. Snow covered the ground. Then we had a stretch of really warm weather in early November and everything melted. All this to say: some of the “wintry” scenes in the video are actually from October and November!
