Fast-idle adjustments shown in this video can be used on all GM vehicles equipped with Quadrajet or Dualjet carburetors. This includes Chevy and GMC Cars, Trucks, and Vans. Plus Buick, Cadillac, Oldsmobile, and Pontiac automobiles. In this video, I show you how I adjusted the fast idle speed on my 1981 C3 Corvette. This is not rocket science. Anyone with a basic understanding of the fast idle system can make a few adjustments to make their car run like new. The fast idle system is an ingenious design that allows a smooth transition between cold and operating temperatures. The engine warms up quicker while running at higher RPM and with a rich fuel/air mixture. This is imperative for a long-lasting service life. Once the operating temperature is reached, the transition from fast to curb idle is complete. At this point, the curb idle system takes over. In this video, I also show you how the system operates along with the correct starting sequence. There is no need to pump the carburetor repeatedly to start the engine. The chances it will get flooded increase quickly with every stomp on the gas pedal. Becoming familiar with how to service these marvels of engineering is important. The Quadrajet carburetor has a bad reputation because people refuse to follow manufacturer-recommended procedures. The steps outlined in the video, are simple and can be accomplished with basic tools.
