Revisiting the scart and sync mods for the 1084 (again). 🛍️ Tindie store: https://www.tindie.com/stores/theretr... 🛠 Tools and kit: / tools-and-kit-77570017 💬 Discord: / discord 😎 Ad-free, early access: / theretrochannel 🔗 Adrian's video: • Ultimate Commodore 1084 SCART modification Matt (Retrobits) channel: / @retrobitstv Previous video (old mod): • SEE PINNED COMMENT Commodore 1084S-P RGB s... 1084S instructions and pics by acadiel: https://imgur.com/gallery/1084s-scart... 🔗 Instructions: Updated: Feb 26 2025 Sync and scart mods for the Commodore 1084 (Philips versions) Parts Required: 1x 390R 1/4W resistor 1x 1K 1/4W resistor 1x scart connector e.g. https://www.aliexpress.com/item/10050... (LR ear) 1x 1N4148 Diode (or equiv) Additional parts required for 1084S (STEREO) version: 1x 390R 1/4W resistor Additional parts required for 1084 (MONO) version: 3X 5K6 1/4W resistors 1x 22K 1/4W resistor NOTE: Some jumper links and parts might already be installed, if that is the case, you are good. Verify everything below. 1. 390R resistor at R210 (behind scart connector) 2. 1K resistor at R220 (behind scart connector) 3. Jumper links at 9270, 9274 and 9275 (behind scart connector) 4. Remove jumper links at 9289 (behind scart connector) and 9290 (towards middle of board) if installed 5. Install 1N4148 diode at 9290, band facing front of monitor 5N. NTSC ONLY: If R232 (mid-left of board) is labelled "NTSC", move it to the "PAL" position. If your board does not have these labels you can ignore this step. STEREO ONLY: 6S. Remove right channel audio and ground wires from scart footprint - required to install the scart connector 7S. Solder right channel audio wire to existing wire at ▲91, and audio ground wire to existing wire at ▲78 (both behind scart connector - remove the audio amplifer board for better access) 8S. Install scart connector 9S. Install 390R resistor at R504 (behind AV jacks) MONO ONLY: 6M. Install 5K6 resistors at R305, R306, R307 (behind scart connector) 7M. Install 22K resistor at R303 (behind scart connector) 8M. Install SCART connector 9M. Install jumper link 9206 (behind AV jacks) OPTIONAL mod to enable fast blanking override using VCR switch: Parts required: 1x 10K 1/4W resistor 1x 1N4148 Diode (or equiv) 1x small length of wire 1x 2.4V Zener diode* 1x 1K5 1/4W resistor* *these may already be installed - see steps 10 and 11 for details 10. Double check R575 (towards middle of board) is a 1K5 resistor (brown, green, red, gold). Otherwise remove R575 and install a 1K5 resistor 11. Double check D576 is a 2V4 Zener diode. If a resistor is there, remove and install a 2V4 Zener with band towards rear of monitor 12. Solder 10K resistor and 1N4148 diode in series with diode band facing away from resistor 13. Connect 10K resistor to middle pin of SK5 (VCR switch) 14. Solder a length of wire from the 1N4148 diode (band side) and connect it to jumper link 9290 on the side towards the front of the monitor 15. Make sure to properly insulate the resistor and diode with heat shrink so it doesn't short 16. Route the wire and components away from the high voltage area of the PCB (flyback) To use SCART for composite, SCART pin 16 must be 0V, front switch set to CVBS, and (if you did the fast blanking mod) VCR switch off To use SCART for RGB without fast blanking (SCART pin 16 0V), front switch must be set to CVBS and VCR switch on (requires fast blanking mod) To use SCART for RGB with fast blanking (SCART pin 16 1.5-3V), front switch must be set to CVBS (VCR switch doesn't matter) To use DIN jacks with H+V or C-sync, set the front switch to RGB and VCR switch off (if you did the fast blanking mod) To use DIN jacks with composite for sync, set the front switch to CVBS, VCR switch on (requires fast blanking mod) and input composite to scart pin 20 or composite jack 🎞 0:00 Intro 5:45 Removing the old mod 7:18 Installing the new mod 15:49 Testing the new mod 17:51 The fastblanking override mod 24:33 Testing fastblanking override 🎞 Thanks for watching!
